There is so much to say about Michael Pearsall. He is a part of the history of this venue and a part of the fabric of our lives. He is a brother to Gary, Michelle & Jessica and to many of the regulars here at Seven Steps Up. We welcome all chances to bring him back to perform on this stage whether he’s with Honor By August, other music friends, or solo.
Born and raised in the small northern New Jersey town of Kinnelon, Michael Pearsall has been a lifelong lover of music. For his 5th birthday, his Aunt Sue took him to his first concert to see Michael Jackson on the Bad Tour. Seeing the impact one of the greatest artists ever had on an audience left a lasting impression.
Michael’s taste in music evolved over the years, listening to everything from Billy Joel to Tool, The Allman Brothers to Counting Crows, Dave Matthews to Mos Def. A few of his all time favorite songwriters are Ryan Adams, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. In eighth grade, Michael took about a dozen guitar lessons and began writing his own songs in high school, some of which he still plays today (“Stuck on Survival”, “Our Little Secret”).
Though he knew he wanted to be a professional singer/songwriter, Michael attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C. While attending Georgetown he formed the band Honor By August.
Honor By August has drawn favorable comparisons to U2 and Bruce Springsteen and has toured the U.S. sharing stages with such diverse artists as Bon Jovi, Peter Frampton, Hootie & The Blowfish, Imagine Dragons and Third Eye Blind. The group’s music has been broadcast to millions many times over on ESPN, E! and popular MTV shows, as well as SiriusXM’s The Pulse, with two nationally-charting singles, “Already Yours” and “Last Chance”. Honor By August has worked with Grammy-winning producers, mixers and engineers.
After 12+ years making music with Honor By August, Michael started recording his first solo album since high school at the end of 2017. Influenced by many of the artists he’s currently listening to (The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, etc.) Practice The Future, will be released in the front half of 2018.
Aside from music, Michael is a multi-passionate creative who loves photography, movies (The Big Lebowski, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, & Pulp Fiction are some favorites), and bringing ideas to life. Growing up spending summers at the Jersey Shore, Michael loves the beach, surfing, traveling, the mountains, hiking, and pretty much anything in nature.
Michael lives with his wife Lindsey, creator of Kaizening.com, and their rescue dog Jax in Nashville, TN.
